They are now working with the US Food and Drug Administration to develop a version of the device for extremely premature man infants. Their programme is to support babies born at around 24 weeks, until they reach around 28 weeks. By this bespeak, their odds of survival are much higher, say the team. This is a "very reasonable" plan, says Marker Turner, at the University of Liverpool, Great britain.
